Joe Pitt needs blood and cash, and he's running short on both. This vampire works cases to survive, but jobs have dried up completely. When a strung-out vampire tears through his favorite bar on some powerful new high, Joe puts the guy through a window and catches the attention of the local Vampyre Clan. They offer him work tracking down this dangerous street drug that's making vampires lose control. Joe swallows his pride and takes the job. The investigation drags him through informants and beatings, leading him above 110th Street on the A train. Someone is manipulating him, pulling strings from the shadows. Joe plans to slice through those strings and take down whoever holds them. But first he has to figure out who's playing him and why.
