Part of Lucas Davenport

First published 2021

Lucas Davenport gets pulled into a case that starts with a Coast Guardsman's family fishing trip off the Florida coast. The Guardsman spots something wrong when a high-powered boat stops to collect a lone diver from the open ocean. His report to authorities triggers a response that goes catastrophically wrong. Three Coast Guard investigators arrive at the scene and all three end up dead. Federal officers killed in the line of duty means the FBI takes control, but their investigation hits a wall. That's when Davenport of the U.S. Marshals Service gets the call. The case grows more dangerous as Davenport digs deeper into what should have been a routine maritime incident. He realizes he needs backup with a different kind of thinking, so he brings in detective Virgil Flowers, whose criminal mindset might be exactly what this puzzle requires.
