The year is 1951. Thebes State Penal Farm sits deep in the Mississippi swamplands, accessible only by a treacherous river route through dense pine forests. Most visitors never return from this remote outpost of human misery. Two men decide to make the dangerous trip to Thebes anyway. They believe they understand what awaits them in this hellish place. They can try to escape by taking the same dark river that brought them here. But the waters that might carry them to freedom have already claimed many other desperate souls.
