Pride and Poltergeists

Part of InCryptid

First published 2027

James Smith spent years being miserable in New Gravesend, Maine, the orphaned son of a sorcerer who died before passing on her knowledge. Then Antimony Price showed up and adopted him into her family, and miserable gave way to chaotic. Now James Price is trying to figure out where he fits. He is not great at cryptid wrangling. He is not great at hand-to-hand combat. What he is, is a sorcerer with no instruction manual and a new last name. He is also maybe falling for the guy who runs his favorite waffle truck, which would be a lot easier to pursue if poachers were not actively making his life difficult and poltergeists were not doing the same. On top of all that, a cold family mystery is starting to heat up again: what actually happened to Aunt Laura? James did not sign up for any of this when Antimony swept him out of New Gravesend. But he is a Price now, and the Prices do not get to sit things out. The question is whether James can hold all of it together before it holds him under.
