Prometheus hangs chained to a rocky cliff, bound by Zeus's command for bringing fire to mortals. The titan endures his torment as various figures visit his place of punishment. Ocean approaches to offer sympathy and counsel, while Io arrives in her own state of suffering, transformed into a heifer and driven mad by Zeus's jealous wife Hera. Prometheus reveals his knowledge of a secret that threatens Zeus's reign, yet refuses to surrender this information despite his agony. He knows that Zeus will eventually fall, but the cost of his defiance grows heavier with each passing moment. The chorus of Ocean's daughters witnesses his steadfast resolve as he faces the eternal consequences of his gift to humanity. Prometheus remains unbroken even as Zeus's eagle tears at his flesh, sustained by his conviction that mortals deserved the divine fire he stole for them.
