Queen's Shadow

by E. K. Johnston

First published 2019

Padmé Amidala's reign as Queen of Naboo has ended, but her public service continues when the new queen requests she represent their world in the Galactic Senate. Padmé accepts reluctantly, trading palace ceremonies for the political maze of Coruscant. Her Senate colleagues watch her with suspicion after her role in removing the previous chancellor. Meanwhile, her closest friend and former decoy Sabé travels to the desert planet Tatooine disguised as a merchant, pursuing a mission close to Padmé's heart. Sabé discovers her resources are limited and her options few on the harsh world. Both women must learn new roles while navigating dangerous political currents. Padmé faces the challenge of building alliances in a Senate that questions her motives. Sabé struggles to complete her covert assignment with inadequate support. Together with Padmé's devoted handmaidens, they work to establish identities separate from the royal persona that once defined them. The former queen must prove herself worthy of trust while her loyal friend operates in shadows to accomplish their shared goals.
