Mia Havero lives aboard one of seven massive Ships that carry the remnants of humanity through space. Earth died in catastrophic wars 150 years ago, leaving survivors scattered across hastily built colonies and these traveling vessels. Her Ship operates as a tight-knit society with strict traditions. Every child must pass the Trial when they turn fourteen. The Ship abandons them on a hostile colony world for thirty days. They return as adults or they die. Mia's birthday approaches fast. She trains in survival skills while grappling with deeper questions about her closed world and her place in it. The Trial will test more than her ability to find food and shelter. She must discover the strength to confront harsh truths about herself and the society that shaped her. The colony planet waits with its dangers and secrets. Mia will face them alone.
