Jennifer finds a book abandoned by a stranger. Ship of Theseus tells the story of a man with no memory who gets forced aboard a bizarre vessel with a terrifying crew. The margins contain handwritten notes from the previous reader, someone captivated by both the tale and its enigmatic author V. M. Straka. Jennifer writes her own responses and leaves the book where she found it. The stranger, Eric, discovers her notes and writes back. Their conversation deepens as they explore the mystery surrounding Straka, a secretive writer who may have been a revolutionary. Jennifer, a college senior, and Eric, a former graduate student, share their theories and gradually reveal personal details about their lives. Their margin dialogue pulls them into dangerous territory as they uncover connections between Straka's work and real world conspiracies. Forces they cannot identify begin tracking their investigation. The two readers must decide how much they trust each other while navigating threats that grow more serious with each exchange.
