Sherlock Holmes Comics #1

by Arthur Conan Doyle

First published 2016

Holmes faces multiple mysteries in this comic anthology from Charlton's brief series. The detective tackles cases in "Final Curtain," "Love Thy neighbor," and "Sherlock Holmes and the Star of the East." Each story adapts the familiar dynamic between Holmes and Watson into sequential art panels. The issue also features Dr. Neff, billed as the Original Ghost-Breaker, who partners with Inspector O'Malley in "Smashing the Spook Racket." A two-page prose mystery called "Tough Guy" rounds out the contents. The comic represents Charlton's experiment in translating Doyle's consulting detective to a visual medium during the mid-1950s comics boom. This facsimile reproduction preserves the original artwork and storytelling approach that attempted to capture Holmes's deductive methods within the constraints of comic book pacing and panel layouts.
