Bee catches the first flight to London after her mother calls about missing sister Tess. She expects to find her free-spirited younger sibling hiding somewhere, ready for another big sister lecture about disappearing without warning. Tess has always been the artist who takes chances while Bee plays it safe. But Tess turns up dead in what looks like suicide. Bee refuses to believe it. While family and police accept the official story, Bee moves into Tess's apartment and digs into her sister's hidden world. She discovers a secret affair with a married man, an unwanted pregnancy, and a stalker who wouldn't take no for an answer. Tess was also part of a medical experiment that may have gone wrong. As Bee tells her story to the detective, she reveals not just a killer who almost got away with murder, but the dangerous lengths she'll go to for the sister she couldn't protect.
