Part of Krewe of Hunters
First published 2022
FBI agent Mark Gallagher tracks a serial killer who abducts women across Virginia. The Bureau assigns him rookie partner Colleen Law, and Mark worries she will slow him down when lives hang in the balance. Colleen belongs to the Krewe of Hunters, agents with supernatural abilities that aid their investigations. She hears the voices of murder victims speaking in her mind. The dead tell her that she and Mark are getting close to their killer, known as The Embracer. Their prime suspect becomes interested in Colleen personally, which makes Mark unexpectedly protective of his new partner. He recognizes that her psychic connection to the victims provides crucial evidence for their case. The investigation takes a personal turn when someone important to Colleen disappears. This forces both agents into the remote forests of rural Virginia, where they become isolated and vulnerable. The killer has drawn them into his territory, far from backup or witnesses.
