Fourteen-year-old Tanya lives on New Frontier, a small island colony where technology vanished ten years ago after a mysterious catastrophe. She has never known the technological marvels her parents once used. Tanya spends her days creating art and exploring with her best friend Licorice, who rebels against colonial ways and studies native culture. At home, Tanya cares for her bedridden mother Clarissa, who has been confined to bed since Tanya was an infant due to some terrible trauma. When Tanya spots a bright object streaking across the night sky, she believes she has witnessed their orbiting Mother Ship crashing into the continental interior. After discovering a mysterious substance that appears to heal her mother, Tanya's family relationships shift in unexpected ways. Armed with knowledge of where the ship might have fallen, Tanya joins an expedition to locate the wreckage, hoping to recover technology that could restore their lost civilization.
