Tempted by Trouble

by Eric Jerome Dickey

First published 2010

Dmytryk once had it all. A college degree, a solid marriage to Cora, and steady work at a Detroit car factory. Then the recession hits and destroys the auto industry. Two years of unemployment drain their savings and test their faith. Bills pile up while honest work remains out of reach. Cora pushes Dmytryk to accept an offer from crime boss Eddie Coyle. Just one bank job, she argues. Two minutes, nobody gets hurt, enough money to restart their lives. Dmytryk agrees, but Cora vanishes the moment he commits to crime. She takes his dreams with her and leaves no forwarding address. Now Dmytryk works for Eddie, planning one final bank robbery that will give him enough cash to escape and find his wife. The job goes wrong. Dmytryk finds himself trapped with a female partner who has her own agenda. She is dangerous and damaged, nothing like the woman he married. As he hides from the law, Dmytryk questions whether his old life is worth recovering.
