Part of Amina al-Sirafi
First published 2023
Amina al-Sirafi has traded her notorious pirating days for quiet family life and religious devotion. The former scourge of the Indian Ocean survived treacherous allies, angry merchants, multiple marriages, and even a demon before hanging up her cutlass. Then a wealthy woman appears at her door with an irresistible proposition: rescue the kidnapped daughter of one of Amina's old crew members for an enormous payment. The job promises everything Amina wants. She can reunite with her crew for one final adventure, help an old friend, and secure her family's financial future forever. The offer seems like divine providence. But as Amina investigates the girl's disappearance, she uncovers disturbing truths about her mission. The kidnapping involves more than a simple ransom scheme. Dark forces and supernatural elements threaten to pull Amina back into the dangerous world she left behind. She must decide whether the promise of legend and glory is worth risking everything she has built in retirement, including her very soul.
