Part of The Baby Dragon
First published 2026
Emmy has a pet dragon, a fledgling business, and one persistent enemy: Luke. She can handle all three, as long as she keeps them separate. When Emmy and Luke both pitch the same local investor for funding, that plan falls apart fast. The investor refuses to choose between them. Instead, he sends both rivals to work at a struggling baby dragon bookshop in town. Whoever proves their magical business instincts wins the cash. Emmy throws herself into the job. The bookshop is small, chaotic, and staffed by creatures that breathe fire near paper, which turns out to be a significant operational problem. Fixing it requires more than Emmy bargained for, and Luke keeps being useful, which is inconvenient. He is also, her dragons keep reminding her, extremely good-looking. The animosity between them is real, but so is the pull. Emmy came to win funding. She did not come to feel anything. The closer they work together, the harder that line is to hold.
