The City in the Middle of the Night

First published 2019

Sophie lives in Xiosphant, one of two cities clinging to survival on January, a planet where one side burns under endless sun while the other freezes in permanent darkness. The cities exist in the narrow band between these extremes, but safety is an illusion. When Sophie joins a failed revolution, the authorities exile her into the deadly frozen wasteland. She should die in the ice and darkness. Instead, a mysterious being saves her life. Sophie returns carrying a secret that could destroy her and everyone she cares about. She gathers other exiles around her, outcasts who have nowhere else to turn. Together they face an impossible choice about the future of human survival on January. Time is running out, and the decisions they make will determine whether humanity finds a new way to live or continues down its path toward extinction.
