Sheila Webb arrives at 19 Wilbraham Crescent for what should be routine typing work. Instead, she discovers a well-dressed dead man surrounded by six clocks in the seaside town of Crowdean. The homeowner, blind Mrs. Pebmarsh, claims she never called Sheila's agency or requested her services. She also insists the clocks don't belong to her. Neither woman recognizes the victim, yet someone specifically asked for Sheila by name. Colin Lamb, an intelligence officer investigating his own case at the local naval yard, arrives as Sheila makes her grisly find. The bizarre nature of the crime puzzles everyone involved. Lamb realizes only one detective can untangle this web of deception and false identities. He turns to his mentor, the brilliant Hercule Poirot, to solve the mystery of the six clocks and the unknown corpse.
