His plans crumble when he discovers his brother Damon living among the city's elite, masquerading as Italian nobility. While Stefan fights to reclaim his humanity, Damon has abandoned his completely, indulging in every dark pleasure the decadent society offers. Stefan tries desperately to save Damon from his own destructive impulses, but a greater threat emerges. Another vampire has arrived in the city, seeking vengeance for a death both brothers caused. This enemy wants them both destroyed.
