The Dead of Winter

by William H. Hallahan

First published 2019

Lyons, Basche, and Tyler arrive for their weekly poker game to find their fourth player, Reece, beaten to death on his apartment floor. Reece was quiet and unremarkable except for one trait: his perfect memory. During their Friday night games, he could recall every card played. But his dying words contradict everything they knew about him: "I don't remember." When police show little interest in solving the murder, the three friends decide to investigate themselves. They form their own makeshift tribunal, determined to track down whoever killed Reece so brutally. Their search leads them into dangerous territory as they try to uncover what information Reece possessed that cost him his life. The three ordinary men find themselves pursuing vigilante justice, but their quest for vengeance will test their friendship and their morals in ways none of them expected.
