Hercule Poirot receives a demanding letter from Benedict Farley, a reclusive millionaire living at Northway House. The detective feels wary but decides to visit anyway. Farley describes a troubling recurring dream where he shoots himself at exactly 3:28. He wants Poirot to explain what the dream means. A week passes after Farley dismisses the detective. Then the nightmare transforms into reality. Poirot returns to investigate whether Farley killed himself or someone murdered him. He questions each person living in the Farley household. Every interview deepens the mystery rather than solving it. Each family member appears more confused than the last about what really happened that night. Poirot must determine if darker forces caused Farley's death or if the man simply acted out his recurring dream.
