The Fallen

by David Baldacci

Part of Amos Decker, book 4

First published 2019

Detective Amos Decker visits the struggling town of Barronville, Pennsylvania with his journalist partner Alex Jamison. They stay at the home of Alex's sister, where Decker chats with Alex's sharp eight year old niece on the back deck. He spots strange lights flickering across the street, then sees flames in a window. Inside the house, Decker discovers two men dead under puzzling circumstances. The deaths point to something larger happening in this economically devastated small town. Local police refuse to cooperate. Unknown forces block their investigation at every turn. Decker relies on his perfect memory, the result of a brain injury that prevents him from forgetting anything. But even his extraordinary recall might not protect him and Jamison as they uncover what could signal danger for the entire country. The case tests the limits of Decker's abilities.
