The First

by Jason Mott

First published 2013

Emily has stopped wearing her engagement ring. More than a year has passed since Edmund Blithe died, and she has begun building a life without him. Then Edmund appears at her door, alive and unchanged, as if death never touched him. His return throws Emily into chaos. She must confront feelings she thought she had buried and decide whether to embrace this impossible second chance. Edmund is not alone. Across the globe, the dead are returning to their families, seeking to reclaim the lives they left behind. These reappearances defy explanation and send the world into uncertainty. No one understands why this is happening or what it means. Emily and Edmund fight to rebuild their connection while everything around them shifts. They risk losing each other again, but they also risk losing themselves in a world where death no longer offers finality.
