The Gate House

by Nelson DeMille

First published 2008

John Sutter comes back to the Gold Coast after ten years away. His aristocratic wife Susan had murdered her mafia don lover Frank Bellarosa, sending John fleeing on a three-year sailing voyage that ended with him living in London. Now he returns to attend the funeral of an old family servant. John moves into the gatehouse at Stanhope Hall, just a quarter mile from Susan, who has also returned to Long Island's North Shore. Frank Bellarosa may be dead, but his son Anthony is very much alive. Anthony wants two things: to pull John back into the Bellarosa family's violent world, and to kill Susan in revenge for his father's murder. Meanwhile, the old attraction between John and Susan flares back to life. John discovers himself caught between rekindled passion and deadly vengeance in the same web of betrayal that destroyed his life before.
