Linda Davis owns a fabric shop where women bring their wedding quilts, baby quilts, and memorial quilts, each one carrying dreams and hopes. Her daughter Molly is heading to college, and Linda feels torn between pride in her daughter's future and grief over losing her daily role as a mother. She wonders who she will become when Molly no longer needs her constant presence. Mother and daughter set out on a road trip across the country to get Molly settled in her college dorm. During the journey, Linda creates a special quilt using pieces from Molly's childhood. She incorporates fabric from a christening gown and scraps from old Halloween costumes. As Linda stitches each piece of cloth together, she realizes that the memories they have built together will provide lasting comfort for both of them in the years ahead.
