The High King

by Lloyd Alexander

First published 2008

The Death-Lord Arawn has claimed Dyrnwyn, Prydain's most potent weapon. Taran, once merely an Assistant Pig-Keeper, now commands an army alongside Prince Gwydion. Their forces march through a brutal winter toward Mount Dragon, where Arawn rules from his fortress. The journey tests every soldier as they face the Death-Lord's servants and the mountain's treacherous paths. At Mount Dragon's peak, Taran confronts both Arawn and the sorceress Achren in a battle that will determine Prydain's fate. Victory demands more than sword skill or courage. Taran must choose between conflicting loyalties and desires, knowing his decision will reshape not only the kingdom but his own destiny forever.
