Hercule Poirot enjoys a seaside holiday at Brighton's luxurious Grand Metropolitan Hotel with his friend Captain Hastings. When they encounter Mrs. Opalsen, the wife of a prosperous stockbroker, conversation turns to her impressive jewelry collection. Poirot shares tales from his previous cases involving famous jewels around the world. Mrs. Opalsen becomes so captivated by these stories that she offers to display her most prized possession: an expensive pearl necklace. She heads to her hotel room to fetch the valuable piece, only to make a shocking discovery. The necklace has vanished. What began as a relaxing getaway suddenly transforms into another mystery for the Belgian detective to unravel. Poirot must use his analytical skills to determine how the theft occurred within the seemingly secure hotel and identify the culprit among the guests and staff.
