Gospel works alone in the Leaving Room, a small space lined with shelves of memory jars. Her job is helping young people who die before they're ready to go. She guides their wispy souls through the transition, giving them time to remember before they move on. Gospel believes other Leaving Rooms exist because so many children pass through, but hers feels unique in its intimate size and collected memories. Everything changes when a door opens unexpectedly and Melodee, another Keeper, steps inside. Their souls connect immediately. Gospel's rigid seriousness softens while Melodee's fear of getting close to others dissolves. But falling in love creates a problem neither anticipated. Keepers aren't supposed to form these bonds. Now Gospel and Melodee must escape the Leaving Room and return to their physical bodies. They have to fight their way back because they've discovered something worth living for together.
