Brigadier-General George Firth receives an unexpected visit from his old friend Adrian Messenger at Scotland Yard. Messenger seems troubled as he hands Firth a list containing ten men's names, asking the police official to use his connections to investigate them. The next day, Messenger boards a flight to America but never arrives. His plane crashes, killing everyone aboard. Firth begins looking into the names on the list and makes a chilling discovery.
