Nicholas Whistler arrives in Prague for what should be routine business. The young man expects meetings and paperwork, nothing more complicated than navigating a foreign city. Instead, he discovers that Prague holds dangers he never anticipated. The secret police take an interest in his activities, watching his movements and questioning his purpose. Meanwhile, a woman named Vlasta pursues him with romantic intentions that complicate his already precarious situation. Whistler finds himself trapped between these opposing forces, unable to complete his simple business mission. The secret police suspect him of activities beyond commerce, while Vlasta's affections create additional complications he cannot easily escape. Every decision Whistler makes seems to deepen his entanglement with both the authorities and his persistent admirer. What began as an ordinary trip becomes a test of survival in a city where nothing operates as it appears.
