Thomas Wazhashk is a Chippewa night watchman at a North Dakota factory. When a new "emancipation" bill threatens to terminate Native rights, Thomas must confront the government's betrayal. Meanwhile, his neighbor Patrice searches for her missing sister Vera, who may be in danger in the big city.
