Alder, a humble pot-mender, is haunted by dreams of his dead wife and the ghostly realm she now inhabits. As the barrier between the living and the dead begins to crumble, Alder seeks the counsel of the legendary wizard Ged. Ged tasks Alder with assembling a team of powerful allies - the sorceress Tenar, the dragonwoman Irian, and the young king of Havnor - to journey to the Immanent Grove on the island of Roke and confront the growing threat. Together, they must navigate the treacherous forces of death and darkness that threaten to consume the entire world of Earthsea. In the end, it may fall to Alder, the most unlikely of heroes, to mend the rift between the living and the dead and restore balance to the land.
