The Purloined Poodle

by Kevin Hearne

Part of The Iron Druid Chronicles, book 8.3

First published 2016

Oberon the Irish wolfhound has learned to recognize danger from his years with Atticus O'Sullivan, an ancient Druid. When a champion poodle disappears in Eugene, Oregon, Oberon discovers that dog thieves are striking throughout the Pacific Northwest. The police dismiss these cases as runaways, so Oberon decides to solve the mystery himself. He enlists his faithful Druid companion for a journey across Oregon and Washington. Their investigation leads them to interrogate a man carrying an enormous salami, outwit scheming squirrels, and carefully avoid confrontation with a massive bear. Oberon recruits Starbuck, a Boston terrier, as his partner while struggling to stay focused despite tempting fire hydrants and rabbits darting through rose gardens. He must also endure the horror of vegetables lurking in a hipster pot pie. The case will test whether this self-proclaimed finest hound detective in the world can reunite the stolen dogs with their families and earn a reward of premium steaks, or if he'll face nothing but disappointing dry kibble.
