Tammuz works as a logician in the Watchers' vast library. He spends his days hunting for traces of Those Who Came Before, an ancient people whose records his civilization destroyed. The Watchers forbid this research, but Tammuz cannot stop searching. A secret group called Alma's Acolytes approaches him with an offer. They possess knowledge about the vanished culture. Together they piece together clues scattered through history. The trail leads to Antarctica, which the Watchers call the Forbidden Lands. An entire lost city waits there in the ice. Tammuz accepts a dangerous mission to find this city and locate a hidden station buried within it. The station contains an artifact that connects past and future. He knows his discovery will reshape the world. What he does not know is that it will also transform who he is.
