A woman locks herself out of her apartment at Friars Mansion and asks friends to help retrieve her key. They devise a plan to enter through a window, but their calculations prove wrong. Instead of finding an empty flat, they discover blood and a corpse in the darkness. The victim lies dead on the third floor, and the friends realize they have stumbled into a crime scene. Hercule Poirot lives in the same building and quickly offers his detective services. The Belgian sleuth must determine who killed the woman and why. Poirot examines the evidence and questions the residents to uncover the truth. The case tests his ability to separate coincidence from murder in a building he calls home.
