Lily Margrave arrives at Hercule Poirot's door with doubts about whether the famous detective is truly necessary. Sir Reuben Astwell lies dead in the Tower Room of his grand estate, Mon Repos, and his nephew Charles Leverson faces murder charges. At Lady Astwell's insistence, Margrave recounts the events from ten days earlier and asks Poirot to investigate. The detective accepts and begins his methodical examination of the great house.
