Cibi, Magda, and Livia promise their father they will never separate. When fifteen-year-old Livia receives orders to report to Auschwitz, nineteen-year-old Cibi follows to protect her younger sister. Seventeen-year-old Magda hides in their Slovak hometown until the Nazis capture her too. The sisters reunite in the death camp and make a new vow to stay alive. Their struggle carries them through the camp's horrors, across a brutal death march through war-torn Europe, and back to Slovakia under Communist control. The sisters then journey to Israel to start fresh in the Jewish homeland. Morris tells their story of survival through sisterly love and unbreakable promises.
