Vallvi

by Edgar Cantero

First published 2011

Edgar's muse has vanished into Vallvidrera, a Barcelona neighborhood that hides dark secrets beneath its bourgeois surface. She has short black hair and definitely isn't Winona Ryder, but Edgar will climb into this urban wasteland to find her anyway. He brings Punker, a strong-willed secondary character, as his companion on the journey upward into the hills. What they discover is far more dangerous than expected. Vallvidrera operates as a separate world where gang wars rage through the streets of Catalonia's wealthiest district. A wild party consumes the territory while gangsters rule from the shadows and superheroes patrol the chaos. Psychopaths roam freely through this lawless realm. An active serial killer stalks the neighborhood, determined to restore what he sees as the natural order of things. Edgar must navigate this violent carnival of crime and madness to reach the woman who inspired his quest, but Vallvidrera transforms everyone who enters its boundaries.
