Jamie Fraser grieves his father's death and nurses wounds inflicted by English soldiers. He joins a band of mercenaries roaming the French countryside alongside his childhood friend Ian Murray. Both young men carry reasons to avoid Scotland. Both remain inexperienced with women despite chances to change that status. Their situation shifts when Dr. Hasdi, a Jewish physician, hires them for an escort mission to Paris. They must protect two valuable items: an ancient Torah and the doctor's daughter Rebekah, who travels to meet her arranged marriage. Jamie and Ian find themselves attracted to the beautiful bride. Neither realizes the true nature of what they guard or the dangers that attraction will bring. The assignment transforms from simple escort duty into something far more complex and threatening.
