Berry Rydell works as a bounty hunter in Los Angeles after the millennium turned California into two fractured states. Chevette Washington rides her bike through the city delivering messages until she decides to try pickpocketing instead. She grabs what look like ordinary sunglasses from a stranger. Both of them discover that whoever controls what you can see through these devices controls serious money and power. They run from people who want the glasses back and head toward the digital core of this new America.
