Thirteen-year-old Ruthy Ramirez vanished after track practice on Staten Island twelve years ago. Her family never recovered. Jessica works at a hospital while caring for her newborn. Nina returned home after college rejections forced her to fold lingerie at the mall. Their mother Dolores remains consumed by grief. Then Jessica sees a woman on the reality show Catfight. The woman calls herself Ruby and dyes her hair red, but she has the same distinctive beauty mark under her left eye. Jessica and Nina decide to drive to the filming location to find out if Ruby is really their lost sister. When Dolores discovers their plan, she insists on coming along with her friend Irene. The road trip becomes a reckoning that forces the Ramirez women to confront what Ruthy's disappearance did to their family and what they want their future to look like.
