B. Alan Wallace is an American Buddhologist known for his work in Tibetan Buddhism and contemplative science. He has authored numerous texts on Buddhist practice and philosophy, including The Attention Revolution, which focuses on the cultivation of Samatha meditation, and Dreaming Yourself Awake, which explores the lucid dreaming practice of dream yoga. Wallace also produced an English translation of the Bardo Thodol, a foremost text of Tibetan Buddhism attributed to Padmasambhava. Wallace has been instrumental in fostering dialogue between Western scientific inquiry and Tibetan Buddhist psychology. He has offered critiques of materialistic philosophies of mind while advocating for the integration of introspection as a legitimate academic research method. This interdisciplinary approach reflects his broader commitment to bridging contemplative traditions with contemporary scientific discourse. In addition to his scholarly work, Wallace is recognized as a preeminent meditation teacher. He founded the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies, an organization dedicated to advancing the study of consciousness through both Buddhist and scientific perspectives.
