Gertrude Barrows Bennett, known by the pseudonym Francis Stevens, was a pioneering American author of fantasy and science fiction. She wrote a number of fantasies between 1917 and 1923 and has been called "the woman who invented dark fantasy". Bennett was born on September 18, 1883 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and died on February 2, 1948 in California.
