David Ivers brings Shakespeare's beloved comedy into contemporary language without sacrificing its original spirit. The accomplished actor and director examines each line of the play to decode every joke, pun, and clever remark that modern audiences might miss in Elizabethan English. His translation preserves Shakespeare's rhythm and structure while making the wit and wordplay accessible to today's readers. Ivers created this version as part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Play On! project, which commissioned fresh translations of all 39 Shakespeare plays. The initiative enlisted diverse contemporary writers to reimagine the Bard's works for twenty-first century audiences. This volume represents the first time these new translations appear in print, forming what the project calls a new First Folio for our era.
