Book

by Steven Price

A rare book dealer discovers an ancient manuscript that seems to rewrite itself. The text changes each time he reads it, drawing him deeper into its pages. His obsession grows as the boundary between the book and reality begins to blur. Other readers fall under the same spell, unable to escape the pull of the ever-shifting words. The manuscript appears to feed on their attention, growing stronger with each person who opens its covers. As the dealer investigates the book's origins, he uncovers a trail of previous owners who vanished or went mad. The text seems alive, adapting to each reader's fears and desires. He must find a way to break free before the book claims him completely, but escape may require sacrificing everything he values about the written word.
