Art history professor James Qatar has a secret pastime. He photographs women without their knowledge, then retreats to his private space to study the images and let his imagination wander. For years, Qatar maintains this routine, content with his voyeuristic ritual. But fantasies have a way of demanding more. When Qatar finally acts on his obsessions, he transforms from observer to predator. His actions draw the attention of Minneapolis detective Lucas Davenport, who recognizes the escalating pattern. Davenport begins his own form of stalking, methodically closing in on Qatar. The professor discovers what it feels like to be watched, hunted, and cornered.
