Minneapolis homicide detectives Leo Magozzi and Gino Rolseth get called to two murder scenes on the same winter night. Chuck Spencer and Wally Luntz, friends who had never met face to face, lie dead hours and miles apart. North of the city, Lydia Ascher discovers two corpses in her basement. The detectives link her to their cases and realize she may be next. More victims disappear: an elderly dying man vanishes from his home, an Alzheimer's patient goes missing from care. The crimes seem random until a pattern emerges from sixty years in the past. Magozzi and Rolseth turn to Grace MacBride and her Monkeewrench team of computer experts. Grace works with her partners Annie, Roadrunner, and Harley Davidson to decode the connections. What they uncover threatens more than individual lives. The killer has awakened something that has waited decades to strike again.
