Computer expert Kathy Mallory discovers a body in Central Park identified as herself. The real Mallory works for the NYPD special crimes unit, where she excels at breaking into complex computer networks. She takes this murder as a personal insult. The victim turns out to be Amanda Bosch, assistant to a well-known columnist. Mallory finds an autobiographical novel on Amanda's computer that ends abruptly with the words "he has lied to me." Using data from Amanda's files, Mallory narrows her suspects to three prominent men who all have much to lose. She knows they are all lying. To catch the killer, Mallory must risk her own life because the murderer has developed a personal interest in her during the investigation.
