Part of Bright Falls
First published 2022
Delilah Green built her photography career in New York and swore she'd never return to Bright Falls. The small town holds only painful memories of a childhood spent feeling unwanted by her cold stepfamily. She keeps her life uncomplicated with casual hookups and no strings attached. But when her estranged stepsister Astrid guilts her into photographing her wedding with a hefty paycheck, Delilah finds herself back where she started. She plans a quick trip until she spots Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid's uptight friends. Suddenly the idea of stirring up trouble seems appealing. Claire runs a bookstore and raises her eleven year old daughter while dealing with an unreliable ex. She values predictability and control. Delilah represents everything Claire avoids. Yet as wedding preparations force them together, including a scheme to rescue Astrid from her terrible fiancé, Claire discovers Delilah sees right through her careful facade. The photographer's persistence chips away at Claire's defenses, leaving her questioning whether she wants to resist at all.
