Dragon Overnight

by Sarah Mlynowski

First published 2018

Nory Horace transforms into a kitten, but her magic goes sideways and she becomes part dragon too. Her friend Andres flies up but can't come back down. They belong to an Upside-Down Magic class for kids whose abilities work differently. The class takes their first overnight trip to Dragon Haven, where they'll swim with dragons, watch them fly, and visit the Hatchery to see newborns. The excitement dims when they discover another school will be there. These visiting students have normal magic and act superior to the UDM kids. Dragon rescue activities, evening bonfires, and pajama breakfasts seem ruined by these snooty strangers. Nory and her classmates feel like outsiders among the regular magic users. But spending time together during the trip might change everything. The kids who seemed like enemies could become friends instead.
