Exceptional X-Men, Vol. 1

by Eve L. Ewing

First published 2025

Kate Pryde stands on Chicago's streets with three young mutants who barely understand their own abilities. Melee, Bronze, and Axo need training, and they need it fast. Kate wants to guide them into the next generation of X-Men, but Emma Frost has other ideas about how this should work. The Krakoan era has ended, leaving mutantkind scattered and searching for direction. These three newcomers represent hope for the future, but only if Kate and Emma can figure out how to work together as teachers. The veteran mutants must shape raw talent into something resembling a team while navigating their own complicated relationship. Chicago becomes the testing ground for a different kind of X-Men squad, one built from the ground up with members who have never known the luxury of Krakoan safety. The young mutants struggle with powers they cannot control while their mentors debate the best path forward. Success means creating heroes who can protect both themselves and others. Failure could doom the next generation before they truly begin.
